What we accomplished on Monday.

Test Prep AM

The test prep went OK.  There were some students who had trouble understanding what they were being asked to do for the writing assignment.  I explained that for this test and all standardized tests that what they were looking for in coherent, structurally correct, on topic paragraphs.  Correct punctuation, capitalization, topic sentence, supporting sentences and a conclusion.  Also that they expect the writer to use all of the available space--a one sentence answer is not acceptable.  There were maybe two students who finished and wrote coherent answers.  There were one ore two students unable to locate a test prep book.  I gave them the other assignment early.

ESE AM

After reading over the directions/assignment, they were a bit unfocused, but I went around and talked to each student individually to ask what character or type of character and what era or culture they would be writing about.  Many of them chose Egyptian, at least initially.  I told them to think about it and come in tomorrow with ideas about what era, what the character looks like and what the flaw or conflict might be.

Test Prep PM

This group was much quieter and and worked without issues for the 50 minutes during the test prep.  There were two students in this group who could not locate their test prep books as well as seven additional students who didn't go on the trip that were given the ESE assignment early.   For Monday, the seven non-trip students were out of the room with an aide, but I expect them for the rest of the week.

ESE PM

As you predicted, this group was a little more focused on accompishing the assignment.  They made good progress and I expect Tuesday's follow up to be productive as well.
